Poll is Closed. LWM3B Babies are...

Trouble in the NICU

The week-long poll is over and I have the results of how you all voted.

Here are the stats of all the babies LWM3B readers posted:

32 babies were born after their due dates and 81 babies were born within the full-term window. This is wonderful news! But here is the astounding part:

32 babies were 33-36 weeks.
11 babies were 29 - 32 weeks.
7 babies were 25 - 28 weeks.
1 baby was 23 - 24 weeks.

And 6 sweet angels were born at 22 weeks or earlier.

This is just a microcosm of the real world. I find it so humbling that while so many of you have happy, healthy babies at home... many of you are walking a similar path.

Thank you for participating in the poll and reading along during November's PAM posts.

  1. Hi!

I missed out on participating on polls as we were in India.
I did read some of your posts though but internet speed was too slow!
It was heartwarming to read about Kate.
Your entire clique of friends are just too nice!
We came back from India yesterday.
With God's grace it was great 3 weeks!
Tanya had bout of diarrhea for 2 days but other than that it was a medically non active trip! yay!!!

  3. Thank you for posting the results of the pole. I'm the one proud Mama of the micropreemie. I miss her everyday, but I know that her fight for life would have been too much to handle. God gave her and us peace by allowing her to live a perfect life with Him. Although, I wonder everyday what life would be like with a 2 1/2 year old princess. I'm grateful that the cause of my preterm delivery was diagnosed, but my hope is that we can work to prevent other families from experiencing the devasting reality of prematurity.

The picture of Trouble is astounding. It's amazing how strong the tiniest of babies can be. You and your family are such an inspiration.

  4. Oh! Trouble's NICU picture - so totally captures the fragility of life. He's come so very far, hasn't he?!?
Blessings to you all, and to you Darcy for all your awareness building for PAM.
Btw, the baby, whose pics I just took, was born 4 or 5 weeks early due to his mother's pre-eclampsia issues. He's doing well ... Praise God.

  5. I'm surprised at how many in your poll delivered prematurely. I wonder if those numbers are typical? Thanks for sharing the results.

  6. My baby was on the late side, and she and I had health concerns from that end of it, but NOTHING compared to what Trouble and other preemies go through.

God bless Trouble. God bless you, Darcy. God bless all these sweet, fragile babies and their mommies out there.

You did a lot last week to raise awareness of this issue. Way to go!

  7. I had two well done babies. Well over full term. They were giants. We joked that Katie was practically a toddler at ten pounds plus and 23.5 inches. So, seeing that picture of Trouble...wow! I can't even imagine. But...look at how far he's come!

  9. Oh that picture (and the others you have of Trouble) when I see that and then look at him today... I get all choked up.

Your whole family has been through so much. How awesome that you are willing to share your journey and encourage other parents along the way.

    What a blessing you are!

  11. Wow... I took part in your poll. My third baby was born at 36 weeks. She was in the nicu for just a short while. She had trouble eating and breathing at the same time. She is a normal little sweetie but I see now she is having some problems at school. She is having trouble keeping up with the class. Her teacher just told me last week that she is a bit immature. After reading your post today... I get it! This may be the reason why. Thank you for giving me a reminder....

  12. Wow, what a photo. Incredible.

I missed the poll but my eldest was born at 34 weeks and spent only 1 week in NICU. We were very lucky.

It's so great to be raising preemie awareness.

  14. This recent poll on premature babies was ever so touching. While the polls numbers are extremely sad, they are also a little comforting knowing that there are others out there in the same boat. We recently brought home our 27 weeker and our lives have changed forever to say the least.

Your husband worked as the architect on our house a couple years ago and while he would tell us all the amazing and courageous stories of Trouble, never did we imagine we would one day be reading from a similar book. Your post titled "On this day..." brings tears to my eyes... it is almost word for word the feelings and experience we went through. To see how far Trouble has come gives me great hope in this scary chapter of our lives.

I really enjoy reading your blog. Keep up the good work... you seem to be an amazing Mother, teacher and advocate for preemies.

    Thank You!
