School shmool.
That's about how all of us are feeling about school these days. And I'm the worst of them. Today I even did the dreaded job of going through the Boybarians' closets. What a chore that is! Do you southerners do that chore? Today I took down, refolded and packed up every article of clothing in their closets. It. took. all. day! I pulled out all the summer clothes we haven't seen in months, opened them all up, see what would fit who, folded it all back up and distributed it where it needed to go. Oh the burden of having two separate wardrobes. Blah.
You know what else I discovered (while not doing school) today? Picasso had over 40 pairs of pants in his closet! I lost count of the shirts, but I had at least 10 piles...
Now, lest you all think I love shopping for little boy clothes... I will say... The Boybarians have boy cousins just a couple years older. And those boy cousins have boy cousins just a couple years older than them. So we get a long line of hand-me-downs. And while I might not love shopping for little boy clothes, their Nanie just can't resist having the most handsome Boybarian Grandsons on the planet. The boybarians also have 5+ sets of great/grandparents! So combined with generous loved-ones and all sorts of hand-me-downs it all sort of piles up by the time it gets to the second or third boybarian. But by the time it's just little Trouble left... I don't really need to save 40+ pairs of pants and 100+ shirts.
Incidentally, he is still wearing the 18-24 mo clothes I bought him 3 years ago. *sigh*
So we packed up all those piles of clothes. Off they go to new home! The closets look much more sparse, tons more tidy, and I can actually say with confidence (for once!) that everything in their closets are clean and fit them.
All this to avoid school. So what are you doing these days to avoid schoolwork?
ps - remember this guy? Some of you asked if he was rubber. Nope. He's real.

I started to organize my pantry to avoid school. This was a few weeks ago. I got a couple of cabinets done, and then school started looking better. A perspective change!
40 pairs of pants! I wonder if that is a new record!
And to your question about Southerners and wardrobe change - oh, how I wish! Here in the nmountains fall, winter and spring are cold one day and blazing the next! I have to keep everything (except the big coats) close to hand most of the year! I took the girls out in sundresses on Monday and we froze. Yesterday was warm and beautiful. This morning is freezing ( freezing to me is probably a bit different from freezing to you in Iowa;). I guess that is what the tornado watches are for.

Going through my DD's clothes (and mine) was actually on my list for today. Granted I was probably going to procrastinate and wait a few more days... but you have inspired me to get it done!
Amy :)
Ahhh the dreaded clothing change. I have tried to do that here in the East but the problem lately is that the weather won't make up its mind.
I am so ready for school to be over (except we will still read and do some math so we don't forget the things we learned this past year)! Not ready for the 100 degree days in Texas, but just ready to chill out!
Have a blessed week!

I hear ya -- my mom is visiting, so we're blowing off school. She's at soccer now with Urban Kid 1 and even staying extra long for a make-up class. Much more fun than school!
Yup- I recently skipped a day of school while J was "kind of"
sick to go through Lincoln's clothes. He's only 6 months old and I swear it took all day just to deal with his clothes! Four bins of 0 to 12 month due to having 2 older brothers. I actually feel guilty if I buy him something new ('cuz I get tired of the stuff from 6 years ago).
I'm also afraid that if I yardsale it all I'll end up expecting num ber 5! So I'm hangin' on to it...
I truly can't stand the weather change. It would even be easier if it went from freezing staight to hot. But it's all the ups and downs of spring that keep this task stretching out for weeks (in the form of multiple bins of clothes open and half open in all our rooms). Oy!
Good that you could get it all done in a day! Now back to school! ;-)

Okay, stop with the snake pics already! GAH! Made me get the willies!
I did that for the boys recently. Not a fun job, but glad it is over. And I love getting rid of things too. I passed on a ton to a friend. She baked me a chocolate pound cake as a thank you. Dh said we should give her all the boys clothes right now so we can have dessert every night! LOL!
To avoid school? Easy, I knit!
I am not a homeschooler but I can 100% relate to the plethora of clothing that kids can accumulate. I have two girls who are almost exactly two years apart. On top of that, my oldest daughter's godparents have a granddaughter who is a year older than her (can anyone follow that chain of people?) and we get all of her handmedowns. Add the adoring grandparents like you mentioned, and yes... tons of clothes. I actually dressed my youngest daughter in an outfit for church on Sunday that she has never worn before and it is already getting too snug on her. I had to leave one of the top snaps in the back un-snapped to make room for her pudgy neck... she has THAT many clothes!
I hate the clothes things. I always do it at the wrong time. Either too soon and my kids are freezing in short sleeves cause all the long sleeves are packed away or I do it too late and we wake up one day and it's 90 degrees but no shorts sleeves to be found.
Our not quite completed math books are what's spurring me to do school each day (we are *almost* done). But school is getting shorter and shorter....I'm dropping subjects right and left and with only one week left it's really just math and the kids reading to me. I'm ready for summer break!

Hi Darcy! I read your blog frequently but I don't think I've commented yet. I have 2 boybarians and 1 little girlbarian (she is heavily influenced by the boybarians) and my 'barians are similar ages to yours. :)
I have the same problem with my 2nd son- TOO MANY clothes!! How is it that he has two drawers full of pants and DS7 only has a few pairs? It's crazy.
I just wanted to say that I love your blog. :) Found it through a link at TWTM hive.
I did this very thing just yesterday! I had gone to the Just Between Friends sale, had a girlfriend give me lots of clothes for Colton and am planning a trip to Arkansas where Colton will once again recieve tons of clothes from his older cousin. Took me all afternoon but it's all neat, tidy and orderly now and it feels good! Ashley doesn't have near as many clothes as Colton but we don't know anyone who gives her large amounts like we do for him.
We too have been having hot days followed by cold ones so I've left most things out just arranged differently in their closet.
As strange as it sounds my husband and I went through all our drawers on Mothers Day- my gift to me since we were living with our clothes on the floor and I couldn't take it anymore! The rod in our closet broke! We dropped off 4 huge bags to the Epilepsy foundation bin.
I have YET to comb the clothes piles, but yesterday I started addressing the State of the Bedrooms, after having seen a large ugly spider hiding under a bookcase. One bedroom took most of the night. Today I worked on yet another, and tomorrow I hope to get through one more.
Oh, and I planted lettuce in our window boxes.
That's what I'm doing to avoid HSing!
We here in the South do have to go through the clothes...but just much sooner. lol
You do have a LOT of clothing for your boybarbians. I'm impressed!
We don't home school, so there's not much we can do to avoid school, but if we did schooling at home, I'm sure I could come up with lots of things to keep me busy and not doing it. I'm a great procrastinator.
Right now I'm trying to get my house in order for a quick surprise visit from the inlaws. They're do in this afternoon and staying for two nights. fun fun!
I forgot to ask...what kind of snake is that? I really don't like snakes...shudder.
We've been reading aloud to avoid school. That way it still seems educational.
We've been doing yardwork to avoid school. That way it feels important.
We've been tossing school books; those that are finished, and those that are mostly finished. We're actually down to Spelling, Grammar, and History....we're almost done!
What are we doing to avoid school (oh yes, we are avoiding it ... we've got summer fever bad!!)? The same as you. Monday was my "I've-had-it!!! Too.much.CLUTTER. Must.clean.out.boys'.room.NOW." day. So we cleaned. And we purged. And we organized. And I threatened the Littlest Dude with mega-torture should he even think of undoing all our efforts any time soon. And the closet? What a pain. It would be so nice if when one boy outgrew something, we could simply add it to the next boy's pile. But no. With a 3 year+ gap between them each, the outgrown clothes usually need to go to storage before being passed down. I guess it's really a nice problem to have (y'know, having enough clothes for all, and being able to pass down), but still...
Anyway, glad your boys have a nice, tidy closet now. Happy Thursday to you all....
I'm in the south. And, yes, we dig through, drag out, and divide up our clothes, too. I underwent the dreaded job last week. Four kids, two adults, too many clothes.
I packed up a lot, to save for the next boybarians. And I bagged up FOUR large giveaway sacks for friends.
Today I organized and decluttered all the toys.
We just took two whole weeks off of school because great-grandparents came to town, and that always trumps schoolwork.
Hey, I'm still packing away the winter clothes! And it has been in the 90's for 2 weeks or so. But I haven't been doing school...so I haven't felt the urge to do something dramatic lately. :)
